1992 - The Short Film Breaks Boundaries
"Cinema was born as a short film, and through it, continues to breed new filmmakers", said the introductory text of the III Festival, which treated the genre as a space thriving on breaking the boundaries created by the established cinema, and opening new ways to a wider audiovisual universe - embracing cinema, TV, and videoart (at that time, the Internet was not even a dream). In order to show the birth of great filmmakers, the festival offered a retrospective with the first steps of directors like Stanley Kubrick, Alain Resnais, Werner Herzog, François Truffaut, Sérgio Bianchi, Bruno Barreto, and Carlos Reichenbach.
The program also included videos from the Festival of Minute. Selected films from the "No Budget" Festival, Hamburg (Germany), proved that it is possible to combine great ideas with little resources. The Brazilian Panorama presented the São Paulo audience with the chance to see 77 new short films, and a retrospective of the history of Brazilian documentary filmmaking through short films.
