1997 - The Short Film Diversity
O VIII Festival celebrates the vitality of Black Culture, breaking into the cinematography of countries like Senegal, Chad, Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, and Cameroon. It also offered works by Americans and English directors, and shorts by Joaquim Pedro de Andrade, Zózimo Bulbul, Vladimir Carvalho, Leon Hirszman, and Orlando Senna among others who portray aspects of Brazilian Black Culture.
Diversity was also guaranteed in the program of the American institution Women Make Movies, which was then celebrating its silver jubilee in the struggle for a cinema made by women. Transgression, experimentalism, and avant-gardism were recurrent themes in the programs showcasing works by the German Matthias Müller, the Austrians from Sixpack, and the Japanese from Image Forum. The Brazilian Panorama had 67 films altogether, breaking a record of participants from different states (11).
